J&K Civil Service (Judicial) Examination
The Jammu and Kashmir Public Service Commission holds the J&K Civil Service (Judicial) Examination to recruit judicial officers under the Jammu and Kashmir Civil Service (Judicial) Recruitment Rules, 1967. Candidates first take an objective preliminary examination of two papers; those who qualify write the descriptive main examination of compulsory and optional papers, followed by a viva-voce. The Commission publishes past preliminary and main papers on its website.

| Preliminary Examination | Two objective (multiple choice) papers carrying 450 marks in all, a screening test only: marks count just for shortlisting, and as far as practicable one-third of candidates who appeared or 25 times the vacancies (whichever is lower) go to the main examination (SRO-254 of 2017). | Main Examination | Under Appendix A of the 1967 Rules (High Court copy): all six compulsory papers (I English essay, translation and precis; II General Knowledge and Constitution; III criminal procedure and evidence; IV financial and service rules and High Court orders; V civil procedure and limitation; VI property and rent law) and three of six optional papers, each of 100 marks and three hours. The 2025 Compulsory Paper I (English) booklet likewise states 100 marks and three hours.
