Preliminary Examination pattern
Two objective (multiple choice) papers carrying 450 marks in all, a screening test only: marks count just for shortlisting, and as far as practicable one-third of candidates who appeared or 25 times the vacancies (whichever is lower) go to the main examination (SRO-254 of 2017). The 2025 Paper I and Paper II booklets each have 100 items of equal marks, maximum 225 marks, two hours, with 0.25 of a question's marks deducted for each wrong answer and no penalty for a blank.
