About UGC NET

UGC NET is the national test that decides eligibility for Assistant Professor posts and the Junior Research Fellowship (JRF), and also qualifies candidates for PhD admission in Indian universities. NTA holds it twice a year (June and December) as a computer-based test. Every candidate takes a common teaching and research aptitude paper plus a paper in their own postgraduate subject.

Eligibility (summary)

Master's degree or equivalent with at least 55% (50% for OBC-NCL/SC/ST/PwBD/third gender); final-year students may apply provisionally; JRF age limit 30 years (with relaxations), and no upper age limit for Assistant Professor or PhD admission Read the latest notification for exact age limits, relaxations and qualifications.
