About CSIR NET

Joint CSIR-UGC NET decides eligibility of Indian nationals for the Junior Research Fellowship with appointment as Assistant Professor, for appointment as Assistant Professor with Ph.D. admission, or for Ph.D. admission only, in five science subjects. CSIR's Human Resource Development Group sets the scheme and syllabus and the National Testing Agency conducts the test. The June 2026 cycle was a single three-hour computer-based MCQ paper in three parts, held on 17 and 18 July 2026.

Eligibility (summary)

June 2026 cycle: Master's degree or equivalent with at least 55% marks (50% for OBC-NCL/SC/ST/PwBD/third gender), or a 4-year bachelor's degree with 75% (eligible for JRF and Ph.D. only, not Assistant Professor); JRF upper age limit 30 years as on 1 July 2026 with relaxations, no upper age limit for Assistant Professor or Ph.D. admission.
