The Gauhati High Court recruits District Judges to Grade-I of the Assam Judicial Service directly from the Bar, and promotes serving Grade-II officers through a Limited Departmental Competitive Examination (LDCE). Direct recruitment has an objective preliminary examination, a main written examination of four papers and a viva-voce; papers from 2011 onward are on the High Court's question-paper page.
