About SSC Stenographer

The Staff Selection Commission holds this open competitive examination to recruit Stenographer Grade 'C' (Group B, non-gazetted) and Grade 'D' (Group C) for central government ministries and offices. Candidates take a computer based examination and those shortlisted sit a qualifying skill test in stenography in English or Hindi. The 2026 notice (24 April 2026) listed about 731 tentative vacancies, and the CBE was held from 9 to 15 September 2026.

Eligibility (summary)

Stenographer Grade 'C' & 'D' Examination, 2026: 12th standard or equivalent pass by 01.08.2026; age 18-30 years for Grade 'C' and 18-27 years for Grade 'D' as on 01.08.2026, with relaxations for reserved categories. Read the latest notification for exact age limits, relaxations and qualifications.
