About India Post GDS

The Department of Posts engages Gramin Dak Sevaks (Branch Postmaster, Assistant Branch Postmaster and Dak Sevak) through periodic online engagement schedules, the latest being Schedule-II, July-2026 (Notification No. 17-12/2026-GDS dated 20 August 2026). There is no written examination: applicants are shortlisted on a system-generated merit list built from their Class 10 marks, and shortlisted candidates then attend physical verification of documents before a provisional engagement offer is issued.

Eligibility (summary)

For Schedule-II, July-2026: age 18 to 40 years on the last date of application (relaxation of 5 years for SC/ST, 3 years for OBC and 10 years for PwBD); Class 10 pass from a recognised board with passing marks in Mathematics and English, having studied the local language up to Class 10, plus knowledge of computers and cycling.
