About UPSC IES/ISS
UPSC holds the Indian Economic Service/Indian Statistical Service Examination to fill Junior Time Scale posts in the two services. Candidates write six papers carrying 1000 marks: General English and General Studies are common, with four economics papers for the IES or four statistics papers for the ISS, followed by a viva voce of 200 marks. The 2026 examination was notified on 11 February 2026 as Examination Notice No. 07/2026-IES/ISS for 16 IES and 28 ISS vacancies and was held from 19 to 21 June 2026.
Eligibility (summary)
IES: post-graduate degree in Economics, Applied Economics, Business Economics or Econometrics. ISS: bachelor's degree with Statistics, Mathematical Statistics or Applied Statistics as a subject, or a master's degree in one of them.
