About CBSE Class 10

The CBSE Class X board examination is taken at the end of the composite Class IX-X course by students of CBSE-affiliated schools in India and abroad. Since 2026 CBSE has held two board examinations for Class X: every student must take the first (main) exam in February, and a second exam in May lets eligible students improve their scores in up to three main subjects or clear a compartment.

Stages & subjects

    Compulsory pen-and-paper theory exams, usually held in February

    Second board examination

    Optional, held later in the year, for improving up to three subjects out of Science, Mathematics, Social Science and languages, or for compartment candidates

    Internal assessment

    School-based assessment, typically 20 of the 100 marks in most subjects; Art Education, Health and Physical Education and Work Experience are assessed only internally
